Restoration- Otto Wagner for KOHN

Here is an example of a restoration process that REREPUBLIC inventory might had gone through. We acquired a very rare set- two armchairs made of beech bentwood and beech plywood designed around 1905 by OTTO WAGNER in style of Vienna’s Secession for KOHN co. These are details of the careful renovation process;

  • STRIPPING OF LAYERS. Over the decades different owners had “renovated furniture” by applying layers of paint/ varnish/ lacquer. Heat stripping removed these layers. This is an effective non-chemical technique
  • SANDING, SANDING, SANDING. All those delicate bended parts took hours of hand sanding
  • SEAT REPAIR. Manual veneer refill
  • CONSTRUCTION REPAIR OF A FRAME
  • CLEANING. Deep cleaning of all parts by using an eco wood cleaner on a rough cloth
  • APPLICATION OF NON-SYNTHETICAL STAIN. One thin layer of non-synthetical stain was applied to bring up original vintage shade
  • WAXING. Applying of the eco bee-wax based paste. Wax was left to absorb in a sun and armchairs developed an extra shine by buffing with rough cloth
