František Jirák (1913- 1998) was a Czech architect, designer and painter. He worked for one of the most successful furniture companies in Europe, UP ZAVODY BRNO, under the leadership of Czech Modernist furniture designer Jindřich Halabala. He lived most of his life in Slovak Republic where he participated at leading positions in the furniture development within the national companies, such as TATRA PRAVENEC and NOVY DOMOV (from 1960s until his retirement).
František Jirák specialized in seating and living room furniture. In 1950s, he experimented with the use of plastic materials in furniture design. Jirák received a number of international design prizes at design competitions such as World’s Fair Paris (1937) and Expo Montreal (1967).
