Jindrich Halabala (1903- 1978) was a Czech Modernist furniture designer and University Professor. He was only 27 years old when he became an Art Director at the largest furniture company in Czechoslovakia that was also considered one of the most successful furniture companies in Europe, called UP ZAVODY BRNO.

His furniture designs were unconventional and fresh, his style was unique and light! Halabala pioneered two fundamental series of modular furniture: the H and E style chairs featuring innovative tubular steel legs. This minimal modernist style inspired a generation of designers, including Peter Protzman and Harry Bertoia.
